Church Hill is a quaint little town which dates back to colonial days. At one time, as many as six churches existed in the Town, but the name is most likely a result of historic St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Parish House (c. 1732) located atop a hill on Route 19. It is the oldest brick church in the state, with its original structure, a handsome Flemish bond pattern, and was built at a cost of 140,000 pounds of tobacco.

Church Hill was incorporated in 1818, at which time there was a great deal of trade in the Town, especially mercantile and grain. It was re-incorporated in 1876 by the legislature. Two fires in 1927, one in January and the other in July, nearly destroyed the business section of Church Hill.

The former Town Hall (324 Main Street), dating back to the early 1800’s, may be one of the oldest existing buildings in Town. The old Mill Residence (c. 1706) and the art deco period Church Hill Theatre are also significant sites. Church Hill Theatre is the only remaining active indoor theatre in Queen Anne’s County and offers live performances rather than movies.

Church Hill supports its local business community through this website. If you are interested in having your local Church Hill business on the Town of Church Hill website, please call the town office at 410-758-3740 and request for your business to be added.
